My husband is really handy around the house,  I don’t think we have ever had to call a repairman.  The only fault he has is tend to do things the way his father did things.  It is really hard to get him to use any of the newer products that are available.  For example, we were hit by a really hard storm just last month and lost most of our roof.  The house originally had a flat roof with paper on it.  I was secretly glad that we lost the roof so we could get something new put on.  We didn’t have to pay for it since the insurance company covered everything.  It took me hours to convince him to research some of the new roofing materials that are available.  He did his research, but did exactly what was there before.

For a couple of years now I have been contemplating whether or not I should spend the money and labor into installing solar panels for our home to become as self sufficient as possible in terms of energy.  There are a lot of things to consider, and for a lot of people, I know good and well that they are most likely looking at whether or not the primary investment, which can be pretty large, will be worth it in the years to come.  There are lots of incentives, such as rebates and tax breaks and such, as well as an increase in your homes value, so for myself when I look at it all, I think it is getting closer to being the right time for me to make our home solar powered.

I thought we had cleared out the last conference room and suite but I had forgotten the adjoining section on the east wing. Going Green is pretty popular and well accepted these days; I remember the seventies and the “kooks” as my father described them, installing them on their dwellings.  My husband and I had been planning on utilizing green techniques for a long in planning our retirement home.  The time is now, and  our bamboo flooring is admired, the solar heating and utilities envied, and installing solar panels ourselves a surprise.  With the help of internet plans, we are working with our contractor in scheduling when this feat of ingenuity, fearlessness and commitment will occur.  It does warm my heat knowing that our labor will be make this home much more ours and vlauable to us.
